At 15, I had a dream. I saw myself cleaning and leading a prayer meeting. At the time, it didn’t seem significant — just a dream. Years later, at 35, my sister called from Haiti about purchasing land. I was hesitant. I felt comfortable in America and didn’t want to return. But after much prayer and reflection, the Holy Spirit sparked a zeal in me. In 1997, I purchased land in LaMothe.
When I visited the property a year later, the memory of my childhood dream came rushing back. I felt a strong calling; something had to be done for the children in this area. Returning to the U.S., I couldn’t ignore the desire to help. I began saving money, working overtime, and sending food and supplies to LaMothe. I visited often, witnessing the need firsthand: so many children without food, clothing, or hope. Each departure left me with a heavy heart.
After years of serving on my own, I prayed for God to open doors to send others to help if it was His will. I struggled with shyness and fear of asking for support, but God delivered me from that fear.
In 2005, I shared my story with others, which led me to take the next step: start a nonprofit. With support from Harvest Community Church, we launched Haiti’s Child. In August 2006, seven of us went on our first mission trip to Haiti, and since then, God has continuously opened doors. What started as a dream at 15 has grown into a lasting mission — a school, a community, and hope for hundreds of children in LaMothe.
Since its beginning, Haiti’s Child has been strengthened by the faithful service of volunteers and missionaries who have dedicated their time, talents, and hearts to the children and families of LaMothe. Over the years, individuals and mission teams have partnered with the ministry—teaching in classrooms, supporting community programs, assisting with outreach, and sharing the love of Christ. Their compassion and commitment have helped expand the impact of Haiti’s Child, bringing hope, opportunity, and spiritual encouragement to the community we serve.
